I remember when you awakened, drenched in your eldest memories.
Your mind, every string of nerves,
Tangled like static,
A pulse,
Waiting for your heartbeat.
You were here still, a force of nature,
Just as the wind caressed the branches,
The breeze met the leaves with gracious eyes,
It’s just as you walked by, effortless.
I couldn’t blink when I saw you’d ran aimlessly from home.
I worried no matter how far you went, you’d still feel trapped inside it.
You used to strive to be something absent in your reflection.
Your eyes told me you hated the light which reflected through that prism.
I knew the feeling all too well,
It was like looking into a blurry mirror again.
But there was a blanket of darkness casted over my face.
I too couldn't recognize you,
For the last few years, I haven’t been here.
I’ve woken up in a grass field where my house used to be,
Either time flew or I wasn’t there to witness it.
I think it tripped us when we tried to run,
Our energy faded when our lives really began.
Our vibrant conversations, greyed by absence.
We’d sleep but we’d never dream;
We boiled in a melting pot of our most banal miseries.
Our voices boomed when our blood flowed,
We became ghosts when our echoes ceased.
Your words, your eyes, they were silent when I’d focus,
So, I too left it all behind.
I always feared looking back,
I thought it would paralyze me.
I feared The Path would be withered,
Sunken into voids of sorrow,
Shattered through its remembrance.
Curiosity killed the cat but I still have 8 more lives.
I've looked back so please don't be mad
Because hell it's just as I feared,
But it’s amazing.
The Path I took to get me here fades just like us,
Every crack, every step, every sunken depth.
Tears leak from me,
But they don’t hurt anymore.
From where I stand now, I think it’s beautiful.
I’m stuck watching your shadow these days
But when I look back,
I see you.
My feet sink into the grass where home used to be but,
I still feel its warmth;
I still feel you.
If this is what life is, I promise, I’ll never leave, I’ll never leave it behind again.
